Glenn Halff, MD

Dr. Glenn Halff is the Director of the Division of Organ Transplantation in the Department of Surgery at The UT Health Science Center at San Antonio. He received his medical degree at the University of Texas Medical School in Houston, Texas. He completed his residency and internship at New York University in New York City, New York and his transplant fellowship at the University of Pittsburg. In 1992, he started the liver transplant program at UT Health Science Center at San Antonio. He performs adult and pediatric liver and kidney transplants. Along with Dr. Francisco Cigarroa, he performed the first split liver transplant in South Texas. He also performs adult to adult living liver transplants and specializes in all liver, biliary and pancreas surgeries.

Robert Esterl, MD
Professor of Surgery
The UT Health Science Center at San Antonio

Dr. Robert Esterl received his medical degree at St. Louis University, St. Louis, Missouri. He completed his internship and residency in General Surgery at St. Louis University Hospitals, St. Louis, Missouri. He completed his abdominal transplant fellowship at St. Louis University Hospitals and at The University of Nebraska, Omaha, Nebraska. In 1995, he performed the first combination kidney/pancreas transplant at University Hospital.
Dr. Esterl specializes in kidney, kidney/pancreas, pancreas and liver transplants.

Francisco Cigarroa, MD
President
The UT Health Science Center at San Antonio

Dr. Cigarroa is the third President of the UT Health Science Center at San Antonio. He is a nationally renowned pediatric and transplant surgeon who was educated at Yale, Harvard and Johns Hopkins. In 1995 he joined the Health Science Center faculty in San Antonio. In 1997 he was part of the surgical team that that split a donor liver for transplant into two recipients, the first operation of its kind in Texas. He continues to perform adult and pediatric liver and kidney transplants.

William Kenneth Washburn, MD
Associate Professor of Surgey
The UT Health Science Center at San Antonio

Dr. Washburn is the Surgical Director of the liver transplant program. He received his medical degree from the University of Pittsburg and completed general surgery training at Tufts-New England Medical Center in Boston. He completed a fellowship in multi-organ transplantation and hepatobiliary surgery at the Harvard-New England Deaconess Hospital. He was trained as a transplant surgeon in the US Air Force at Wilford Hall Medical Center. He joined The UT Health Science Center at San Antonio is 1998. He is actively involved in the adult and pediatric liver and kidney transplant programs as well as hepatobiliary surgery. Dr. Washburn established the clinical research component and is the principal investigator in a number of protocols involving established and new pharmacologic agents.

Gregory Abrahamian, MD
Assistant Professor of Surgery

Dr. Abrahamian is the Surgical Director of the kidney transplant program. He received his medical degree from The UT Health Science Center at San Antonio. He completed his residency and transplant fellowship at Wilford Hall Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas and Massachusetts General Hospital. He specializes in adult and pediatric kidney and liver transplant surgery.
